Yoga Position

The word yoga has been derived from the Sanskrit word 'Yuj'. Yuj means union, in the same way; yoga is the union of body, mind and soul. Hence, this workout is beneficial both as physically and mentally. There are 'n' numbers of yogawhich one can practice for revitalizing themselves. The base of the yoga is the position. While practicing yoga, it is important to be aware of the proper position for each asana. A slight wrong move may be deleterious.

If you are going to practice yoga, then keep following things in the mind-

Attire-

  • In most of the asanas, a person needs to move and bend the torso, so always wear loose-fitting clothes.
  • Never wear fit cloth, as these outfits would limit you to move in various positions. Close-fitted would be uncomfortable for yoga practice.
  • Alwaysselect cloth according to the climate and season.
  • Choose cotton clothes, cotton absorbssweat. It would be soothing and light while exercising.
  • Prefer the fittings which allow your limbs to move freely.
  • Don't wear socks or shoes, yoga should be done barefoot.
  • Avoid wearing accessories like- watch, bangles, belt, anklets etc.
  • Remember whatever you wear, it should be comfortable.

Seats-

  • For seating, you can have mat and rug.
  • But these matsshould not be slippery or very hard.
  • Cotton cloth can also be used as a seat. Fold it properly and place it on the ground.
  • Use clean and dust free seat.
  • Seat should provide support so that while exercising various asana it can help you in maintaining postures.
  • Always practice on a separate seat. Do not share your seat with anybody in the class.
  • Never do yoga on bed, couch etc. Place your seat on the ground.
  • Select the place where you can perform asanas without any difficulty or harm.
  • Avoid rocky, slippery and wet place.

Time and Venue-

  • It is not necessary that you should practice yoga in the early morning only.
  • There are not specified times for doing yoga. You can practice at different time.
  • Morning time is recommended because body isstiff and mind is relaxed. And for performing asanas it is good if the mind is calm.
  • Morning yoga is preferable, as it increases metabolism and energizes the body which would be good start for a day.
  • Do not practice yoga with full stomach. You can practice it after 3-5 hour from lunch or dinner.
  • Only vajarasna can be performed after dinner for digesting food.
  • You can also practice yoga in the evening time.
  • Choose open, airy and clean place to perform yoga. It would be ideal place for refreshing your mind and soul.
  • Do not select too hot or cold place for exercising.

For achieving best result in the exercise consider the above points. Practice yoga with calm mind and good spirit. Take proper guidance for yoga positions, breathing technique etc. and gain maximum benefit.
