Yoga Meditation

Meditation plays a significant role in yoga practice. One learns to meditate by long and thoughtful concentration on a subject. It is related to spiritual and religious matter. For meditating, a person can close eyes or can concentrate on anything like-

  • An idol of god or goddesses
  • By chanting any mantra
  • Listening soft music

A person can sit from 5- 10 minutes for performing meditation. It depends on a person how much time he/she can give to meditation. They can perform yoga mediation as per their capacity. While concentrating, one must feel tranquility in mind.

There are so many cassettes, CDs/VCDs available in the market for yoga meditation. One can play it at the time of meditation and repeat the mantras with them. They can target anything to concentrate. Yoga meditation is the best exercise for stress release and other mental problems. Students can perform this yoga posture to increase the concentration level which will definitely help them in their studies.

Consider these points as yoga meditation technique-

  • Always do yoga meditation before lunch with the gapping of 3hours, means perform mediation with empty stomach
  • Wear loose and cozy clothes
  • Select comfortable and quiet place for sitting (sit by folding knees, keeping your hands on knees OR can also sit on any chair etc.)
  • Keep your body relaxed
  • Close your eyes gently
  • Follow the prescribed asanas and control over senses

Here are the yoga postures which you can practice to gain yoga meditation benefits-

Full Lotus Pose (Padmasana):

  • Sit on the ground
  • Cross the legs, keeping the left foot on right thigh and right foot on the left thigh
  • Close the eyes and relax your mind

Burmese Pose

  • Sit on the floor and bend your legs (Do not cross but stretch the knees like one foot placed in front of the other)
  • Place your hands on the thighs and close your eyes to meditate

For releasing stress you can practice meditation with breathing technique.

  • Sit straight on floor on a comfortable mat
  • Place a hand on the stomach and another hand on the chest
  • Inhale deeply from nose as the hand on the belly should rise
  • Exhale from mouth as the hand on the belly should set down

A person can perform meditation by sitting down on the floor and or in the chair. To gain maximum benefit of yoga meditation it is necessary for an individual to keep the mind empty, follow proper breathing technique and postures. People can practice yoga meditation and can get relief in the diseases like- Heart problems, blood pressure, hyper-tension, stress, allergies, sleeplessness, headache, etc. Even, pregnant women can also practice meditation yoga to get relief from phobias at the time of pregnancy and have healthy baby. One can also perform the meditation for enhancing the confidence level.
